DOG RESCUE, REHABILITATION, REHOMING & LEISHMANIASIS HELP CENTRE

Whether you are looking to adopt a dog, surrender a dog or need help with leishmaniasis positive dogs, The Max & George Trust is here to help

The Max & George Trust

dog rescue & leishmaniasis support

Originally founded in August 2016 to help dogs with Leishmaniasis, The Max & George Trust has grown into a full dog rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming centre, whilst still providing the necessary care and treatment for leishmaniasis whenever needed.

The Max & George Trust rescues & rehomes dogs in the UK, Spain, Romania, Cyprus and other EU Countries where dogs are in critical, life threatening situations and kill centres.

The rescue relies heavily on volunteers that are doing their best to care for the dogs and where possible rehabilitate, build trust and re-train the dogs so they can finally get a home of their own. We are always looking for volunteers to help us.

Everything we do at The Max & George Trust is 100% in aid of the dogs and every penny we make goes towards the rescue of another dog, vet fees, food, general running costs (such as electric and transportation) and vaccinations etc.

Meet Max

Max was a gorgeous cocker spaniel crossed with a shitzu. He adored being stroked, hugs and he really loved George.

Max would sneakily steal George’s badly buried and hidden treats but he would give George the greatest of cuddles.

Max would always protect George and their bond was incredible BUT no matter what Max did George never learnt to play with him.

Max died unexpectedly in March 2017

.. & George

George was a grumpy little chap but totally adorable. His character and charm earned him the title of King George.

King George often represented the Trust at events, business networking meetings and even became the first dog to sign up for a 4N membership. Sadly, his membership was revoked due to him having 2 extra legs BUT he was given special privileges and attended for free as an honourary “member”

George devastatingly lost his battle with leish in March 2019

Max & George were very special dogs. Although, both were technically Spanish rescues, shockingly Max was originated in the UK with his sister Lola and shockingly both dogs were let down by their UK owner.

Leishmaniasis, often referred to as leish is a horrible disease and it is because of their suffering and incredible journey that the rescue was formed.

At the time of Max & George’s arrival in the UK, leishmaniasis was a rare disease and not often seen by UK vets. In fact, most UK vets would recommend PTS.

Determined to learn more and get Max & George the treatment they needed Lauren flew to Spain and visited over 20 veterinary practices UNTIL she found a leish knowledgable vet that spoke english.

Ignacio became the Max & George consulting vet for 6 years.

The Max & George Trust

so much more than a dog rescue

Although The Max & George Trust Dog Rescue began by being focused on providing a support network and provided treatment for leish dogs, it was not long before vets began asking if M&GT would take on dogs needing rehoming, or other dogs that needed urgent medical  treatment. By January 2019, M&GT was fully committed to  looking after sick, injured, hurt and homeless dogs.

Although we are based in Staffordshire, we cover the whole of the Uk and unlike other rescue we assess all potential adopters on ability and suitability. So whether you are 60 and above or below 12 years in age we welcome your enquiry.

At our centre in Staffordshire, on average at any one time, we have between 40 & 50 dogs in our care and many others in foster all eagerly awaiting to find their own forever homes and loving family.

In addition to the dogs looking for their new homes, we also have many other dogs on the canine companion program where we match up elderly dogs with elderly people.

We believe we are probably one of Staffordshire’s largest non-profit, independent dog rescue centre. We are proud to say we have no CEO’s that get paid by the rescue, in fact our founder actually works her own businesses to supplement the Trust. Therefore, any donations we receive really do go to the dogs! With our average monthly running costs exceeding £12k per month, we are heavily reliant on the goodwill of strangers, volunteers and donations.

We have a team of over 80 regular volunteers that ALL share the workload ensuring our dogs get walked between 2 and 4 times daily, get taken out to secure fields and even cafes to help the dogs get used to new environments. Without our fabulous team of like-minded volunteers we simply could not function. Our volunteers are the life blood of the centre, helping us look after the dogs on a daily basis with cleaning kennels, walking, feeding and of course help the dogs in our care to rehabilitate giving them time, patience love and care.

But, we could not do any of this if it weren’t for the kindness and generosity of our supporters who donate food, blankets, towels and monetary contributions which help us with veterinary fees and medical care etc. Unlike other rescue organisations we do not receive any Government help or grants, so we really really do need and value any donations however big or small from our community of supporters.

In return, we strive to give back to our local community and are always available to help find missing and lost dogs. We work in close partnership with our friends at DroneSAR and have several large humane “missy” traps that allow us to catch even the most scared dogs with ease before reuniting them with their owners, In addition to lost dogs, the canine companions program we also have a number of therapy dogs that regular visit local care homes, schools and such like providing comfort and alleviating loneliness. We welcome schools with children that have SEN and mental health issues because as everyone knows, dogs are incredibly therapeutic!

You can of course find out all about us and the work we do by clicking here.

In the meantime, how can we help you? Whether you are looking for a new family dog, need to surrender your dog, need emergency respite care for your 4 legged friend or simply want to join us for Tea and Tails just lick on one of the features below or visit the menu for more information.
