The Max & George Trust

& leishmaniasis
help centre

The Max & George Trust was founded in 2016 by Lauren Brown, originally to help owners of dogs with leishmaniasis that over the years has evolved into the rescue it is today.

Since then, Lauren has gone on to rescue and rehome 100’s of dogs that otherwise would be dead, abandoned or in need of medical treatment.

Lauren mostly self-funds the rescue through other work and relies on the generosity of volunteers to help care for the dogs patiently waiting for their chance of a forever home. It is a team effort and far more than just a dog rescue centre alone. The centre now supports many visits from special educational facilities and schools such as The Bridge Academy, Rugeley School and community projects like Liberty Jamboree.

Our work in the community doesn’t just stop with schools, our Volunteers also visit care homes with our emotional support and therapy dogs. We provide work experience placements to many local colleges, schools and universities.

We are looking forward to rolling out more projects including Tea and Tails, dog training and educational programs to a name a few.

IT STARTED BECAUSE

Founded in 2016

In 2015 I became the proud dog mum of Max & George

For years I wanted a dog or dogs, but circumstances and work commitments prevented this. I have always loved animals and I have wanted a dog since as long as I can remember.

I was fortunate enought to meet a man who already owned a dog and that dog became a special part of my life, but it wasn’t until years later that 2 very special dogs came into my life unexpectedly.

I first met both dogs when visiting my birth mother in Spain and out of all the dogs she had living with her I fell in love instanty with Max. He was the most loving an d cuddly dog I had ever met. Constantly snuggling in to me and pawing for more attention. George on the other hand was the complete opposite. he regarded me with suspicion and aloofness. I would go as far as to say he didn’t much care for me and the feeling was mutual.

In 2014, my mother moved back to the UK with her 5 dogs and to my utter delight this included Max & George. Over the year I got to spend alot of time with both dogs and I can honestly say they stole my heart so when my mother moved back to Spain a year later and decided to leave them behind, I immediately drove over to get them both and bring them home.

Despite being incredibly and desperately allergic to dogs, I wasn’t going to let this prevent me from having a life with these gorgeous two fluff balls and so, the adventures of Max & George began and we had some great ones!

Shortly into our relationship, I discovered that both dogs had a disease called leishmaniasis and it was eye opening in so many ways. It was also expensive to treat and it took a very special vet to help me navigate through the roller coaster of emotions and doing the most I could for both dogs whose needs were so different despite the same disease.
