saved from calan kill centre

major

Loveable but not suitable for rehoming Major is a permanent MGT resident. Major survived living on the streets and torture at the hands of the dog catchers / kill centre he was rescued direct from the kill centre because no dog deserves to die that way

MAJOR

RESCUED 3RD OCTOBER 2021

Major was saved from being killed on 3rd October 2021 and arrived safely with MGT on 26th October 2021. Major arrived terribly traumatised with deep open cuts to his neck most likely caused by the dog catchers.

Like a lot of Romanian kill centre dogs, Major needed time to decompress and adjust to his new life at The Max & George Trust.

Trust and desensitisation takes time and patience. It’s not the dogs fault and Major was an extreme case.

We believe Major to be a Romanian Carpathian Shepherd dog, These dogs are bred to guard livestock in the Carpathian Mountains..

.Carpathian Shepherds are natural born guardians, they are courageous and loyal.

It has to be said that Major absolutely loves basking in the sunshine and is perfectly happy in his kennel watching the world go round laying out in all weathers.

Major has been known to raise the alarm when there has been a problem with another dog or the puppies need attention.

Unlike, most other rescues when we make a commitment to rescue a dog and save its life, if they cannot be rehomed, then they remain our responsibility for the rest of their life. It’s our job to gain the dogs trust and work with them at their pace.

Major most certainly needed time. He was restless, scared and because he was scared and traumatised he showed signs of fear aggression. He most certainly would not let anyone near him to examine his neck. Putting Major in a car and taking him tot he vets was not an option. The only way a vet would be able to get near would be sedation by way of dart gun and this would be a sure fire way to lose his trust and set him back.

At MGT dog rescue, we sometimes have to come up with some very ingenious and inventive ways to treat a dog and treating Major was going to test our imagination.

Like all dogs Major needs annual vaccinations, veterinary check ups and care when necessary

Getting Major used to human interaction in his kennels been quite the journey

Muzzle training Major was necessary to get him used to being touched and safe for the vet!
